Easter Prayer Guide: Week 2
The Resurrection - The Foundation of the Gospel
March 24–30, 2025
Leading to Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025
A Letter from Pastor Broyhill
Dear Church Family,
Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025, is 27 days away, and we’re called to reach others with the Gospel of Jesus’ resurrection—His command to “go ye therefore, and teach all nations” in action. This week, “The Resurrection - The Foundation of the Gospel” in Matthew 28 and Luke 24 shows how Christ’s victory fuels us as bringers. The empty tomb drives us to share hope with friends, family, and neighbors. Through the “Five to Invite” challenge, pray for your five, pin their names to the “Redemption Cross,” and invite them to Easter—let’s fill our pews with those we’ve reached!
Daily prayer powers this mission. Each day, lift up your five, our Easter servants, and your role as a bringer. Prayer opens hearts and gives us boldness. As we see Jesus revealing His risen power in scripture, let’s pray and act daily to bring His hope to others this Easter!
In His risen name,
Pastor Broyhill
Prayer Focus
Pray daily over the "Today’s Prayer Focus" listed each day, lifting up Easter’s impact. Add your five people by name as God leads, asking the Holy Spirit to prepare their hearts.
Evangelistic Challenge: Five to Invite
Remember the “Five to Invite” challenge from last week? Keep praying daily for those you’ve already invited to Easter—don’t give up on them! This week, ask God to show you new people to add to your list—friends, family, neighbors, or co-workers who need Jesus’ hope. Write their names on a card, pin them to the “Redemption Cross” in the foyer as your commitment to reach out, and share a simple resurrection thought with one of them. Invite them to join us April 20 if the moment feels right. Let’s keep building our Easter outreach together!
Activities for Everyone
- Claim Your Neighborhood This Week: Contact the church office to claim your neighborhood—they’ll give you door hangers to invite neighbors to Easter services April 20. Walk your streets, hang them with a prayer—“Lord, draw these homes to Easter!”—and include your five if nearby. Pin their names and “My Neighborhood” to the “Redemption Cross” as a bold Easter outreach.
- Jelly Belly Easter: Staple a pack of Jelly Bellies from the Easter Resource Table to an Easter Outreach Card. Give it to a co-worker or group of co-workers with a smile: “Easter’s sweet because Jesus rose—join us April 20 at church!” Pin their names to the “Redemption Cross” and pray for Easter to touch their hearts through this tasty invite.
Daily Guide
Day 1: Monday, March 24 – The Empty Tomb
Days Until Easter: 27
- Scripture: Matthew 28:1-7 (KJV)
1 In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.
2 And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.
3 His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow:
4 And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men.
5 And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.
6 He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.
7 And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you. - Devotional: The resurrection proves Christ’s victory over death, igniting the Gospel’s power and giving us hope to share as bringers. The empty tomb isn’t just a miracle—it’s the foundation of our faith, showing Jesus reigns alive. You’re called to tell others this truth: He is risen! Practically, you could slip an "Easter at Calvary Invite Card" into a friend’s lunchbox with a note about hope, or hand one to a neighbor while chatting about spring’s new life. The empty tomb fuels our mission to bring people to Him.
- Think: How does the resurrection renew your hope, no matter your life stage? What stands out about the angel’s announcement to the women?
- Today’s Prayer Focus:
- Our CARE Outreach teams as they work through neighborhoods.
- Do: Write a sentence about what the empty tomb means to you.
- Story for Kids:
Imagine you’re playing hide-and-seek at your house with your best friend, Lily. You’ve checked every spot—under the bed, behind the couch, even in the closet—but she’s nowhere! You start to worry she left, but then your mom calls from the backyard, “Lily’s out here, safe and sound—she tricked you!” You race outside, laughing at the surprise. That’s a bit like what happened with Jesus. His friends went to His tomb, sad and expecting to find Him, but it was empty! An angel appeared, bright and strong, saying, “Don’t be afraid—He’s not here; He’s risen, just like He promised!” Jesus was alive again, and it was the best surprise ever—better than any game!
Kids, Easter at Calvary is coming because Jesus rose from the dead! It’s the greatest news we can share. Think of five friends you’d love to tell about this surprise. Grab some “Easter at Calvary Invite Cards” from church, write their names on a card with your family, pin it to our “Redemption Cross,” and pray they’ll come to our Easter services April 20 to hear all about Him!
Day 2: Tuesday, March 25 – The Risen Lord Appears
Days Until Easter: 26
- Scripture: Matthew 28:8-15 (KJV)
8 And they departed quickly from the sepulchre with fear and great joy; and did run to bring his disciples word.
9 And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him.
10 Then said Jesus unto them, Be not afraid: go tell my brethren that they go into Galilee, and there shall they see me.
11 Now when they were going, behold, some of the watch came into the city, and shewed unto the chief priests all the things that were done.
12 And when they were assembled with the elders, and had taken counsel, they gave large money unto the soldiers,
13 Saying, Say ye, His disciples came by night, and stole him away while we slept.
14 And if this come to the governor’s ears, we will persuade him, and secure you.
15 So they took the money, and did as they were taught: and this saying is commonly reported among the Jews until this day. - Devotional: Jesus’ resurrection shines through His appearances, proving His power and fueling us as bringers to share this hope. He met the women with joy, turning their fear into worship—and He meets us, too, urging us to tell others. Despite the priests’ lies, the truth stands: He lives! You could tuck an "Easter at Calvary Invite Card" into a coworker’s desk with a smile, or pass one to a family member while reminiscing about second chances. His appearances call us to bring others to Him.
- Think: What stands out about how Jesus revealed Himself to the women after rising? How does the resurrection renew your hope today?
- Today’s Prayer Focus:
- Pastor Broyhill as he prepares to preach a powerful Easter message.
- Do: Tell a friend why Jesus’ resurrection gives you hope.
- Story for Kids:
Picture your big sister, Emma, going away to summer camp for a whole week. You miss her tons, and the house feels quiet without her silly jokes. You’re moping on the porch when a car pulls up—Emma jumps out, yelling, “Surprise, I’m back early!” You can’t believe it; you run to hug her, asking, “How’d you get here?” She grins, “I wanted to see you!” That’s kind of how Jesus’ friends felt. They thought He was gone forever after He died, but suddenly He appeared to them, alive and smiling, saying, “Don’t be afraid—tell everyone I’m back!” They were so happy, they worshipped Him right there. Even though some people tried to say it wasn’t true, His friends knew—Jesus was really alive!
Kids, Jesus being alive is the best surprise we can share—it’s why we have Easter at Calvary! Who can you tell? Pick five friends or family to invite. Get some “Easter at Calvary Invite Cards” from church, write their names on a card, pin it to the “Redemption Cross” with your family, and pray they’ll join us April 20 to celebrate Him!
Day 3: Wednesday, March 26 – On the Road to Emmaus
Days Until Easter: 25
- Scripture: Luke 24:13-35 (KJV)
13 And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about threescore furlongs.
14 And they talked together of all these things which had happened.
15 And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them.
16 But their eyes were holden that they should not know him.
…
30 And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them.
31 And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.
32 And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?

- Devotional: The resurrection’s power unfolds as Jesus walks with us, opening hearts like He did on the Emmaus road—fueling us as bringers to share this hope. He met those travelers in their confusion, revealing Himself through scripture and breaking bread. You could leave an "Easter at Calvary Invite Card" on a friend’s doorstep with a treat, or offer one to a neighbor while walking together, asking about their day. His presence calls us to bring others to Him.
- Think: What stands out about Jesus revealing Himself on the road to Emmaus? How might this speak to your five people’s struggles?
- Today’s Prayer Focus:
- God’s guidance for the music team as they prepare for our Easter services.
- Do: Share a simple resurrection thought with one of your five.
- Story for Kids:
Imagine you and your buddy Sam walking home from school after a tough day—you bombed a math test, and he lost his favorite ball at recess. You’re both grumbling when a new kid joins you, wearing a bright blue hoodie. He starts chatting, telling you funny stories about his dog and how he aced a test once by studying with snacks. You feel better, laughing together. When you get home, he pulls off his hood—it’s your cousin Jake, disguised since he moved away last year! That made your day. That’s a little like what Jesus did. Two sad friends were walking, missing Him, when He joined them, explaining how He’d risen. They didn’t know it was Him until they sat down to eat—then poof, He was gone, and their hearts were happy!
Kids, Jesus loves showing up to cheer us up—He’s alive, and that’s what Easter at Calvary is all about! Think of five people you’d like to invite to meet Him. Day 4: Thursday, March 27 – The Commissioning
Days Until Easter: 24
- Scripture: Luke 24:36-49 (KJV)
36 And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.
37 But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit.
38 And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?
39 Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.
…
46 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:
47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
48 And ye are witnesses of these things.

What if you’re home alone during a stormy night, and the wind howls like crazy? You hear a loud bang and jump—thinking something spooky’s outside! Then your dad walks in, laughing, “It’s just me—I fixed the gate!” You’re relieved, hugging him tight. He sits down, eats a snack with you, and says, “Tell your friends I’m back from my trip!” Jesus’ friends had a moment like that. They were scared, hiding in a room, when He suddenly appeared, saying, “Peace to you!” They thought He was a ghost, but He ate some fish with them, proving He was alive—not a spirit! Then He said, “I rose from the dead—go tell everyone so they can know Me too!” It was real, and they couldn’t wait to share it.

Day 5: Friday, March 28 – Reflecting on the Resurrection
Days Until Easter: 23
- Scripture: Luke 24:1-12 (KJV)
1 Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.
2 And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre.
3 And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus.
…
11 And their words seemed to them as idle tales, and they believed them not.
12 Then arose Peter, and ran unto the sepulchre; and stooping down, he beheld the linen clothes laid by themselves, and departed, wondering in himself at that which was come to pass.

You’re bummed, thinking it’s lost forever. The next day, your friend runs up, holding it high, shouting, “I found it—it’s back!” You’re amazed, kicking it again with a huge smile. That’s kind of what happened with Jesus. His friends went to His tomb, sad and sure He was gone, but it was empty! Peter raced there, saw the cloths alone, and wondered—Jesus was alive! Their sadness turned to joy because He beat death!

44 And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.
45 Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,
46 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:
47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
