Easter Prayer Guide - Week 1
Easter Prayer Guide Week 1

The Ascension and Our Mission
March 20–23, 2025
Leading to Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025
Dear Church Family,
Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025, is coming, and it’s more than a celebration—it’s our call to reach others with the Gospel of Jesus’ death and resurrection, fulfilling His command to “go ye therefore, and teach all nations” Friends, family, neighbors, and co-workers need the hope only He offers, and our 30-day Easter Prayer Guide, starting this Thursday, will lead us to be bringers—sharing the good news boldly. Through Acts 1 and Matthew 28, we’ll see how Christ’s ascension sends us out with the Holy Spirit’s power and His presence. The “Five to Invite” challenge makes it personal: pray for five people, pin their names to our “Redemption Cross” in the foyer, and watch God work as we pray for the unsaved, our Easter servants, and our own service opportunities—turning prayers into action to fill our pews with those we’ve reached!

Prayer Focus
Pray daily over the "Things to Pray For" listed each day, focusing on Easter’s impact. Add your five people by name as God leads, asking the Holy Spirit to prepare their hearts.
Evangelistic Challenge: Five to Invite
- Step 1: Write down five people (friends, family, neighbors, co-workers) you’ll pray for and invite to Easter. Keep the list where you’ll see it (Bible, fridge, wallet).
- Step 2: Take a card from the foyer, write your five names, and pin it to the "Redemption Cross" as a sign of your commitment to pray and reach out.
- Step 3: Pray for them daily—ask God to prepare them for the Gospel.
- Step 4: By Sunday, tell someone (friend, family, church member) something positive about one of your five (e.g., “I’m praying for [name]; they’re such a great listener.”). This starts the conversation!
Activities for Everyone
- List your five, pin their names to the "Redemption Cross," and pray daily; journal your thoughts.
- Make a prayer board with everyone’s five names, pin them to the "Redemption Cross" together, and pray as with a group; whether it be a group of friends, your Lifegroup, or your family.
Daily Guide
Day 1: Thursday, March 20 – Understanding the Ascension
Days Until Easter: 31
- Scripture: Acts 1:1-5 (KJV)
1 The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,
2 Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen:
3 To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:
4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.
5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence. - Devotional: The Ascension—when Jesus was “taken up”—marks His victory and authority, launching the mission of the Great Commission. It’s not just a goodbye; it’s the moment Jesus empowers us to reach others with the gospel. As a bringer, you’re called to share this truth: the risen, ascended Christ reigns, and His commands urge us to go. Practically, this could mean inviting a neighbor over to share how Jesus has changed your life, or telling a coworker about the hope you have because of His ascension. Even a quick chat with the barista at your coffee shop about why Easter matters can plant a seed. Understanding the Ascension ignites our purpose to bring people—family, friends, or even strangers—to Him.
- Think: How does Jesus’ ascension—going to heaven to intercede for us—assure you of His work in your life? What does it mean to you that He spent forty days proving He was alive?
- Things to Pray For:
- People God places on your heart to invite to Easter.
- Those who will serve on Easter Sunday (ushers, musicians, etc.).
- How you might serve on Easter to share His love.
- Do: Discuss with family and friends how the resurrection and ascension of Christ should give up encouragement and boldness as we share Christ with others.
- Story for Kids:
A boy named Timmy loved his new kite—it soared high above the trees! One day, it got stuck, but his big brother climbed up, freed it, and promised to teach Timmy how to fly it even higher. That’s like Jesus after He rose from the dead: He spent 40 days with His friends (disciples), showing He was alive, then went up to heaven to help us from there. He didn’t leave us alone—He promised the Holy Spirit to give us power, just like Timmy’s brother gave him help!
Kids, Jesus wants you to tell others about Him, too. Think of five friends or family you’d like to invite to Easter. Write their names on a card with your family, pin it to our “Redemption Cross” in the foyer, and pray for them daily.
Day 2: Friday, March 21 – The Promise of the Holy Spirit
Days Until Easter: 30
- Scripture: Acts 1:6-8 (KJV)
6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?
7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.
8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. - Devotional: The Ascension sets the stage for the Great Commission, and the Holy Spirit’s power makes it possible. Jesus didn’t leave us alone—He sent the Spirit to equip us to be bringers of the gospel. Acts 1:8 is our charge: reach others, from our neighborhoods to the nations. With the Spirit’s help, you can boldly bring Christ to your family by sharing a Bible story at dinner, or to a friend by asking them to church. Imagine thanking your restaurant server with a kind word and a gospel tract, or praying for your doctor’s faith during a visit. The Spirit empowers us to reach everyone we meet with Christ’s love.
- Think: How can the Holy Spirit give you boldness to share your faith today? How does His power change the way you approach telling others about Jesus?
- Things to Pray For:
- Unsaved guests who will attend Easter services.
- Pastor Broyhill as he prepares his Easter message.
- Strength to be a witness through the Spirit’s power.
- Do: Write a short list of ways to pray for the Holy Spirit’s boldness this week.
- Story for Kids:
A girl named Sarah was going to a campout but was afraid of the dark and didn’t want to go because she thought other might laugh. One day, her mom gave her a special flashlight that made her brave—it lit up the dark! Jesus’ friends felt unsure, too, but He promised them the Holy Spirit, like a superpower, to help them tell everyone about Him, from their town to faraway places.
Kids, Jesus wants you to tell others about Him, too. Think of five friends or family you’d like to invite to Easter. Write their names on a card with your family, pin it to our “Redemption Cross” in the foyer, and pray for them daily.
Day 3: Saturday, March 22 – Jesus’ Ascension and Return
Days Until Easter: 29
- Scripture: Acts 1:9-11 (KJV)
9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.
10 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;
11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven. - Devotional: The Ascension isn’t the end—it’s the beginning of our mission and a promise of Jesus’ return. As He ascended, He commissioned us to reach others with the gospel, and His return adds urgency. Being a bringer means living with eternity in view, sharing Christ’s love now so others can know Him before He comes back. You could reach a coworker by asking about their beliefs over lunch, or bring hope to a nurse by sharing why Jesus gives you peace during a medical appointment. Even a friendly word to the cashier at the grocery store can open a door. The ascended Lord calls us to act today.
- Think: How does the hope of Jesus’ return motivate you to share the Gospel now? What would you say to a friend about why His return matters?
- Things to Pray For:
- People God places on your heart to invite to Easter.
- Those who will serve on Easter Sunday with joy and strength.
- Wisdom for how you can serve and prepare for Easter.
- Do: Talk to a friend or family member about this hope of Easter.
- Story for Kids:
A boy named Jake watched his dad leave for a trip. Dad waved from the plane, promising to come back with surprises! Jesus’ friends saw Him go up to heaven in a cloud, and two angels said He’d return the same way. That promise kept them excited to tell others about Him while they waited.
Kids, Jesus wants you to tell others about Him, too. Think of five friends or family you’d like to invite to Easter. Write their names on a card with your family, pin it to our “Redemption Cross” in the foyer, and pray for them daily.
Day 4: Sunday, March 23 – The Great Commission
Days Until Easter: 28
- Scripture: Matthew 28:16-20 (KJV)
16 Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them.
17 And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted.
18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. - Devotional: The Great Commission flows from the Ascension—Jesus’ authority as the ascended Lord sends us to reach others with His gospel. Being a bringer means going, baptizing, and teaching, trusting He’s with us. Invite a friend to a Bible study, or share a testimony with your family to spark faith. At a restaurant, leave a note with your tip about Jesus’ love, or ask your neighbor how you can pray for them. The Ascension proves His power; the Commission defines our purpose. Every step we take to share Christ—with coworkers, servers, or anyone—reflects His ascended command to bring the world to Him.
- Think: What’s one way you can obey Jesus’ command to “go and tell” this week? How does His promise to be with you always encourage you to reach out?
- Things to Pray For:
- Unsaved guests who will hear the Gospel on Easter.
- Pastor Broyhill’s strength and clarity for Easter preaching.
- Open doors to invite and serve on Easter Sunday.
- Do: Share your outreach plan with a church friend after service.
- Story for Kids:
Once, a girl named Lily got a special job from her teacher: share her favorite bible story with everyone during school assembly! She was nervous, but her teacher said, “I’ll be with you!” Jesus told His friends (disciples) to tell the whole world about Him, promising to stay with them always. That made them brave to go everywhere!
Kids, Jesus wants you to tell others about Him, too. Think of five friends or family you’d like to invite to Easter. Write their names on a card with your family, pin it to our “Redemption Cross” in the foyer, and pray for them daily.
Let’s Start Strong!
This week, let’s pray, reflect, and take our first steps to reach others with Christ’s love. Visit the "Redemption Cross" in the foyer to pin your five names, and share your stories Sunday—how is God working through your five?
