Scripture: John 1:6-8
"There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light."
Discussion: John the Baptist was sent by God to prepare people for Jesus, the Light of the world. His mission was to point others to Jesus. How can we reflect that same purpose in our lives? Share ways we can shine the light of Christ to those around us, like John did.
Story: Picture a pitch-black cave where someone holds a torch, guiding others to safety. John the Baptist was like that guide, ensuring no one was lost in the darkness but could find their way to Jesus, the Light of the world.
Scripture: John 1:9-10
"That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not."
Discussion: Jesus is the true Light, offering guidance and salvation to all people. Even though He created the world, many didn’t recognize Him. Why do you think some people fail to see Jesus for who He is? How can we help others recognize His light?
Story: Think of a lighthouse standing firm on the shore, guiding ships to safety. Jesus is our true Light, guiding us through life’s storms.
Scripture: John 1:11-12
"He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:"
Discussion: Not everyone accepted Jesus, but those who did were given the privilege of becoming God’s children. What does it mean to believe in Jesus and be part of God’s family? Share what it means to you personally.
Story: Imagine a king inviting people to live in his palace. Some ignore the invitation, but others accept it and find a place where they truly belong. Jesus invites us to be part of His family.
Scripture: John 1:13
"Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God."
Discussion: Being born of God means experiencing a spiritual birth, a transformation that makes us part of His family. How does this new birth change the way we live? Discuss how being born of God affects our hearts and actions.
Story: Think of a caterpillar becoming a butterfly—a beautiful transformation. When we are born of God, we experience a similar change as we grow in Him.
Scripture: John 1:14
"And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth."
Discussion: Jesus, the eternal Word, came to live among us, showing us God’s glory, grace, and truth. Why is it significant that God came to earth as a man? How does Jesus’ life inspire us to live with grace and truth?
Story: Imagine a king leaving his palace to live among his people, helping them and showing them how to live. Jesus did this when He became one of us, showing us God’s love and truth.
